A new build starts long before the concrete truck shows up. Get site prep right and every trade afterward moves faster; get it wrong and you're paying for that mistake through the entire project.
Step one is clearing. Take out only what you need to — mature trees you keep now become the shade and character of the finished property, and they can't be put back.
Step two is setting the topsoil aside. It gets piled somewhere safe, then spread back over the disturbed areas at the end of the project. Don't let it get buried.
Step three is cutting down high spots and filling low ones so the building sits at the right height with the ground sloping away on all four sides. This is where a laser level earns its keep.
Step four is the pad itself: gravel fill packed down to the strength the build requires, and tested if the engineer asks for it.
Step five, done in parallel, is the access driveway. It needs to handle the heaviest truck that will visit the site — usually the concrete truck on pour day, or the boom truck delivering trusses.
Book site prep as early as possible. For a spring start, we'd rather quote you in October than April.
